Photonics 4 quality monitoring

General event

Photonics 4 quality monitoring: Smart solutions driving the food industry forward

Workshop description

Photonics and sensor technologies are transforming the agri-food sector, enabling smarter, safer, and more sustainable production. This interactive session brings together the photonics and agri-food application industry. How can they work together on digitalising the food value chains — from real-time quality monitoring to smart sorting and traceability?

In the context of the EU project Phorwards21, in this workshop, we want to show the possibilities of photonics applications and discuss with end users how these applications can be implemented. In this way, participants will explore challenges, opportunities, future directions, and identify joint development opportunities.

Workshop agenda

  1. Introduction by Petra Wicherink (PhotonicsNL)
  • Welcome and short overview of the session (role of photonics in agri-food)
  • Introduction to the EU project Phorwards21, including PhotonHUB presentation
  1. Panel discussion with experts
  • Deep-dive on one specific use case example
  • Panel discussion and conversation with theses
    • Pavel Paclik (Datavia)
    • Lex Oosterveld (OnePlanet/imec)
    • Markus Ojala (Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences/Finland)
    • Lisanne van Oosterhoud – Brainport Development/Next Tech Food Factories
  1. Interactive Group Discussions with participants
  • During these discussions, we want to find out how photonics applications can be integrated into the agrifood industry. What is needed for this, what is there, how do we move forward, etc.
  1. Plenary and Wrap-Up
  2. Matchmaking & Networking
