Today’s world demands a resilient defense ecosystem that balances security, economic strength, and technological innovation. In this light, dual-use technologies—applicable in both civilian and military domains—are essential. Consider quantum technologies, sensors, and intelligent systems as key areas where the Netherlands can combine knowledge, innovation, and strategic importance. Through interactive workshops, we aim to bring supply and demand closer together, explore the potential of these technologies, and identify opportunities for further development together.
The conference is a joint initiative of FME, COMMIT, and TNO, born from a shared ambition to put the SDIR (Strategic Defence Innovation Research) approach into practice. We aim to accelerate the translation of technology into applications and position the Ministry of Defence as a launching customer for Dutch innovation.
By the end of the day, we will have a shared understanding of the innovation ecosystem surrounding the specific NLD areas (Quantum, Sensors, Intelligent Systems). These will then form the starting point for a series of strategic activities with the participants, aimed at forming multiple public-private partnerships by 2026. These should contribute to addressing operational shortcomings within the defense sector by developing innovations from the triangle of defense, industry, and knowledge institutions.
